Arsenal have been offered former Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen in a swap deal involving Granit Xhaka, according to reports in Italy.
Eriksen has endured a tough life in Milan, where he has not lived up to the expectations. The Danish playmaker was signed for 20 million pounds last January but has failed to make a major impact.
It was believed that N’Golo Kante was Antonio Conte’s first-choice midfielder last summer. However, Chelsea were never interested in offloading the French World Cup Winner.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter’s hierarchy are now considering alternatives to Kante and Xhaka is on their shortlist ahead of the upcoming window which opens in six weeks’ time.
Even though the Swiss is highly regarded at the Emirates, Arsenal have their own problems at the attacking midfield position. That problem can be solved by Eriksen who was one of the best playmakers in the world when plying his trade at Tottenham.
Eriksen has publicly admitted that the move to Inter hasn’t panned out the way he wanted. “This isn’t what I dreamed of,” Eriksen told TV2 last week.
“All players want to play as much as possible, but the coach decides who gets to go on the pitch. It is a strange situation, as the fans want to see me playing more and so would I, but the coach has different ideas and as a player I have to respect that.
“Right now it may not be going so well in the club, but in the past, when I did not play that much either, there was great success. I am concentrating on my football, then when the transfer window opens we will see if something will happen or not.”
