The 32-year-old football legend won this lustrous trophy of Golden Shoe for the straight third time after scoring 36 goals for Barcelona this year. Messi’s biggest challenger Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain club was just three goals short in the prestigious leagues otherwise he would have edged past the star forward in receiving this lustrous award.

The five-time Ballon d Or winner arrived at the eminent award ceremony with his better half Antonella Rocuzzo and sons Thiago and Mateo. Not only this, Messi’s team-mates Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba were also present at the remarkable night to support and cheer for him.

While receiving the great honour, Barcelona star Lionel Messi said, “there are Luis and Jordi, who are two of the men to blame for this award. Without my team, I could not even have won the award once”. He dedicated the prestigious award to his family and colleagues who were standing by him at every moment of success.

Earlier in the last month at Best FIFA Football Awards 2019, Messi was honoured with the ‘Best FIFA Men’s Player’ award for the first time in his life. Indeed he was head over heels after receiving the maiden sparkling trophy of FIFA Men’s Player 2019. The Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo won this honour consecutively two times in 2016 and 2017. But last year Croatian player Luka Modric edged past both the football greats to win the grand award.

However, in UEFA Champions League Awards 2019, Messi took the shining trophy of ‘Champions League Forward of the Season’ at home after beating the arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo in the nominations.
