Boxing Day had promised us loads of goals in the Premier League and our promises had been kept. Liverpool demolished Newcastle by 4 goals to the good and Tottenham 5. The Reds had taken a 6 point lead on the top with 2nd placed Tottenham climbing above City.
The Anfield faithful had rocked the stadium even before the match had started. Salah, Firmino, and Mane were up to a quick start dribbling through Lascelles and Dummett. It was Lovren for Liverpool who scored a half-volley following a corner in the 11th minute. Newcastle were quick to fight back in the opponent’s box. Perez and Rondon created multiple chances but found no luck. 1-0 to Liverpool at half-time. Jurgen Klopp knew 1 goal wouldn’t be enough, he asked his team to press more and counter faster. Salah dashed on the flank before cutting inside and with a slight tug from Dummett fell down. A dive for many, but a penalty to the referee. Salah scored his 13th goal of the season. Liverpool’s dominated the entire game. Shaqiri and Fabinho scored later to give the Reds a comfortable 4-0 victory and 3 points in the bag.
The Spurs had smashed Everton 6 goals to 2, but their thrashing of the week didn’t stop there. Tottenham came into the match against Bournemouth with intent. Kane, Eriksen, Moura, and Son all had their scoring boots on. The match began and so did the Spurs thrashing. Kyle Walker Pieters played in Eriksen who shot and with the deflection of Lerma, the ball crept in. Minutes late Pieters again put the ball on a plate for Son to score. The young Englishman completed his hattrick of assists when he cushioned the ball towards Moura to score. Halftime and Bournemouth seemed finished. Kane managed to score in the second half fluffing his lines with a poor left footed shot but it was enough to beat Begovic. The Bosnian’s night went from bad to worse when Son took the ball way from him to score Spurs 5. Tottenham have scored 11 goals in their last 2 matches. Pochetino has been excellent.
