The two-time defending champions Chile have again proved their dominance in the grand tournament of Copa America 2019 as they defeated Group C mates Japan in a lop-sided battle on Monday at famous Morumbi Stadium, São Paulo. The Reds sealed their opener with a comfortable 4-0 win over blues with the help of star forward Eduardo Vargas who bagged as many as two goals for his squad.

Chileans started to break the defence of the Japanese team right from the beginning of the game. After the first 30 minutes of the match, Chile began its attacks as brilliant forward Alexis Sanchez knocked two consecutive attempts which unfortunately went off the target.

Chile opened their account in the final minutes of first half of the match when attacking midfielder Erik Pulgar smashed the goal for his side in the 41st minute via the header which was fired directly into the nets. After which the first half witnessed no further action.

In the 54th minute of the second half, it was star forward  Eduardo Vargas who doubled the lead for Chile with his jaw-dropping strike landing straight into the goalpost from the corner of the area. Though Japan got a chance to sound the board after few minutes of Chile’s second goal but the young midfielder missed the shot and ball hit the side-net of the post.

The game got tougher for Japanese squad after the doubles of Chile as they failed to convert any attempt into a successful goal. It was then Alexis who gave the 3-0 lead to Chileans at  82nd minute which was followed by final match-winning hit of Vargas at the 83rd minute. With this Chile won the game and earned a total of three points in Group Standings whereas Japan is struggling at last position without any point.

In the game against Japan, Vargas netted two goals while Pulgar and Sanchez contributed one goal each in the maiden victory of their side. Chile will next lock the horns with another group C mates Ecuador on June 22nd at Fonte Nova Arena while Japan will face Uruguay on June 21st at Arena do Gremio.
