Football Champions Chennaiyin FC have suffered a big blow as the squad recently lost their final match of Hero Super Cup against FC Goa by 2-1 at Kalinga Stadium. Both the teams were going hard on each other as the tense-final started. Goa’s brilliant forward Ferran Corominas opened the account for his side in the 51st minute of the game by scoring a goal with a simple tap-in. Goa finally took the lead in 64th minute when Brandon Fernandes scored a goal to seal the match against Chennai.
Despite the fact that Goa clinched the victory in the competition, it was Chennai who first started the blazing game with mounting pressure on Goa. The Chennaiyin squad were favourites to grab the title this year as they started vigorously and right after the 20 minutes mark star players like Rafael Augusto, Anirudh Thapa and Dhanpal Ganesh had almost controlled the game in their favour. The footballers achieved three consecutive chances in the first half but could not make any of them count due to the exceptional performance of Goa’s goalie. The young-gun Mohammed Nawaz gave no chance to Chennai squad to shot a goal in the first half.
Finally in the second half Goa drew their opener with the help of mercurial forward Corominas after Thapa strikes the ball near the halfway line. Goa’s opener was followed by Chennaiyin FC to level up the game as Raphael Augusto fired the shot on a loose ball just outside the box.
As the match was heading towards the final quarter, Goa tried even more harder to break the tie but could not make it. However in the end, the winning goal came to Goa’s account in the form of penalty which signaled their first-ever win in Hero Super Cup .
