Indian National Football team who was struggling in the ground without any boss has finally got a ray of hope as the Technical Committee of All India Football Federation (AIFF) has recently recommended the name of former Croatian footballer Igor Stimac for head coach position of national football team. The Technical Committee has put the 51-year-old footballer’s name forward to Executive Committee of AIFF, who will now take the final call on the decision.

The Chairman of Technical Committee of AIFF, Shyam Thapa said on the appointment of Stimac,”we have chosen Croatian Igor Stimac from the interviews. Every committee member and AIFF members questioned him and got a satisfactory reply”. He also added, “Stimac’s preparation for Indian football is impressive. He has knowledge about the country. He is good so we all have decided to appoint him as the new head coach”.

Apart from Croatian player, the two-time South Korean World Cupper Lee Min-sung, former Spanish footballer and manager of El Salvador – Albert Robert and former Sweden coach Hakan Ericson have also been named as the eligible candidates for the head coach position.The Technical Committee headed by former Indian International footballer Shyam Thapa decided to hold a meeting on May 9 in order to short-list the names of the suitable candidates for this position and after having a long discussion, Stimac has been picked up for the job. Though, all four candidates did their best to impress the selectors but Stimac won the hearts in the end with his brilliant career stint in football.

The former Croatian defender who has a total of 53 caps to his name between the golden period of 1990 and 2002, represented the National Croatian Football Team in 1998 World Cup tournament in France.

If the former Croatia national team manager Igor Stimac becomes the new head coach of Indian squad then he will have to prepare the national team for Kings Cup 2019 as his first coaching assignment. The grand football tournament is scheduled to be held at Buriram, Thailand and India will start its Kings Cup campaign from June 5, 2019. Moreover, the preparatory national camp for the national team is going to commence from third week of May under the guidance of new head coach.
