As the glitzy event of FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019 started off on June 7th, hosting team France proved their dominance in the opening battle against South Korea. The hosts defeated the Koreans with a brilliant margin of 4-0 at the Parc des Princes stadium on Friday. The stadium with a capacity of 47,929 spectators was completely packed for the first match of biggest women’s football tournament.

The French women commenced their World Cup campaign without any pressure as they seemed to look quite confident at the beginning of their match against Korea. French squad scored their first goal at ninth minute when captain Henry gave a cross to fellow midfielder Le Sommer to strike the goal. It was Sommer’s 75th goal for French squad in her career stint so far.  In reply, South Korea also tried to level up the game with an opener before half-hour mark but Ji So-Yun failed to hit the ball from the box.

In 35th minute of the game, it was France who shot another goal and doubled their lead with the help of Gaetane Thiney’s corner from the right side. Before the ending of first-half, star midfielder Thiney fired another goal at 45th minute and gave her team a brilliant lead of 3-0 against Koreans.

The match-winning goal curled by the captain Henry who flicked the goal far from 20 yards at 85th minute. After this whole French Women’s football squad celebrated their comfortable win over Koreans at the home soil.

The captain of French National Women’s Football Team, Amandine Henry said on her team’s victory while speaking to the broadcaster TF1, “the realization of a dream I had as a little girl. We went into the match the right way”. This is just the beginning for the team and France is all set to win 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy with such a great start.

France will next take on Group A mates Norway at Allianz Riviera stadium on June 13th. This will later be followed by their third match against Nigeria on June 18th at Stade de la Route de Lorient stadium.
