In the recent nail-biting encounter of FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019, two-time grand football cup champions Germany again proved their dominance against Group B mates Spain on Wednesday at Stade du Hainaut stadium. A lone goal victory of German squad over Spaniards has been slated with the help of star player Sara Daebritz. The 24-year-old young footballer Daebritz finally found the net at 42nd minute of the game after a hard struggle.
Despite missing out their brilliant mid-fielder Dzsenifer Marozsan in the game due to severe injury, Germany still performed vigorously and gave no chance to Spain to bounce back in the match.
At the beginning of the game, it was Spain who lined-up aggressive attacks against Germany. The Spaniards were very close to open their account in the first half but unfortunately star forward Nahikari Garcia’s powerful hit was not enough to break Germany’s defence. During the neck-to-neck tussle with German goalkeeper Almuth Schult, front liner Gracia failed to score an opener for her side.
The deadlock between both the teams was finally broken in the second half when Germany improved its game. This happened when midfielder Daebritz came forward to hit the ball towards the box after opponent goalie Sandra Panos tried to block the header of Alexandra Popp.
The head coach of Germany’s national women’s football team, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg expressed her feelings after the great victory on Spain. She said, “we did not start well, we were nervous for some reason. We were lucky not to fall a goal behind”. She also added, “Thank God! we scored and then we delivered an amazing-energy performance in the second half”.
Earlier in the day, Nigerian women defeated Group A mates South Korea with the margin of 2-0 at Stade des Alpes. While one of the powerful squads the United States clinched the brilliant 13-0 victory Group F mates Thailand at Stade Auguste-Delaune.
Germany will next take on another Group B mates South Africa on June 17th at La Mosson while Spain will lock the horns with China PR on the same day at Stade Oceane.
