Tottenham Hotspurs have enjoyed a great season up till now. They are 3rd in the premier league table, in the last 16 of the Champions League, progressed in the FA cup 4th round and face Chelsea in the 2nd leg of the Carabao Cup with a goal to their advantage. However, they have recently received some drawbacks. Heung-min Son has left for the Asian Football Championship and will return in the middle of February. While Harry Kane limped off in the last minute against their loss with Manchester United injuring his ankle with a challenge involving Victor Lindelof. It is predicted that he would be out until the 3rd or 5th March, missing the North London Derby and Champions League matches against Barcelona.
Arguably, Son and Kane have been both of Spurs’ best players and without both of them, the goals will be hard to come by for the North Londoners. Without both of them, we would see Fernando Llorente up top for Spurs and Eric Lamela will play instead of Son on the wing, with the Spurs youngsters on the bench. This will impact the Spurs place on the table a lot. Currently, just 7 points ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United, they have to play 6 premier league matches without the duo. This is where Pochetino’s managerial experience comes into play. With their talisman gone, there would be pressure on Alli and Eriksen as experienced players. Spurs would have to scrap for wins in the next 2 months. Mousa Dembele and Wanyama have also been injured for a long time, hence overall the team lacks depth.
The real test for Spurs starts now. With no reinforcements due to the construction of their new stadium and with quality players gone, the players have to show vigor and strength to retain a place in the top 4.
