India is all set to host FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2020. The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has announced the confirmation on Friday that India will be the host for seventh edition of U-17 Women’s World Cup 2020. While expressing his delight on the development the General Secretory of All India Football Federation said, “We are thankful to FIFA for giving the right to host the U-17 Women’s World Cup. This will raise the profile of women’s football in the country. So we bid for the U-17 Women’s World Cup and now we have got it”.

This is not the first time when India will host international event of FIFA, earlier, the county had successfully hosted the U-17 Men’s World Cup in 2017 and all the national team’s matches were held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi. However the final took place in Kolkata at the Salt Lake Stadium, where England defeated Spain to lift the U-17 Men’s World Cup trophy.

AIFF president Praful Patel also shared the piece of information on Twitter handle and said, “A very proud moment and a honour that our country #India and #AIFF has been confirmed as the host of #FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2020. We will strive to make it a grand success.” The venue of the tournament is yet to be confirmed.

Apart from U-17 World Cup 2020, India has also showed interest in hosting U-20 Women’s World Cup. The Journey of U-17 World Cup event was started is 2008 when New Zealand hosted the tournament. Last year, the title was conquered by Spain against Mexico with an amazing win by a margin of 3-0 in the finals at Uruguay.
