The last year’s runners-up Goans painted the whole stadium of Mumbai Football Arena into orange colour as they edged past the home team of Mumbai City FC with a great margin of 4-2 on Thursday night. The confident squad of FC Goa put up a great show against strong Islanders at their own den and eventually won the 17th encounter of Indian Super League 2019-20 with amazing teamwork.

Both the teams started very cautiously at the beginning of the game but it was the strong visitors who picked up the momentum against Mumbai lads. As a result, Goans sounded with an opener through the powerful shot of Lenny Rodrigues at the 27th minute. Before the hosts could emerge from this shock Ferran Corominas came forward to double the lead for his team at 45th minute. In this way, the first half was ended with 2-0 lead in the favour of FC Goa.

In the second half of the game, Sarthak Golui came out with all guns blazing for Mumbai City FC and marked an outstanding opener at 47th minute. This was then followed by another impressive shot of the night from Souvik Chakraborty who leveled the scores for his team at 55th minute. But it seemed like this was not enough to knock down Goans in the nail-biting encounter as bounced back with an emphatic kick of Hugo Boumous at 59th minute. When only one minute was left on the clock for final whistle visitors sounded with the fourth goal by Carlos Pena and sealed the match successfully.

With this comprehensive win, FC Goa has now reached to the top position of current Indian Super League Standings along with 8 points in account. While on the other side, Mumbai City FC moved down to the fifth position of recent standings with only four points in the kitty.

FC Goa will next take on the strong opponents of Jamshedpur FC at the home soil of  Fatorda Stadium on November 26th. While Mumbai City FC will test their fortunes against the powerful club NorthEast United FC at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on November 27th.
