The last-minute efforts of star forward Maximiliano Barreiro drove ‘Highlanders’ NorthEast United FC to a fortunate win over strong opponents Hyderabad FC at their own den. In the 16th match of Indian Super League season six, a last-gasp penalty of NorthEast United against Hyderabad FC took them to the top of the ISL points table with a 1-0 win. With this impressive win, the Highlanders still remained invincible in the ongoing tournament.

Both the teams went hard on each other at the beginning of the enthralling match. But there is no doubt in saying that the hosts have better passing accuracy than the confident visitors in the first half. However, NorthEast United FC got a couple of chances to open an account first in the game. But Hyderabad FC held them firmly till their last breath. As a result, the first half went goalless.

In the second half also, it seemed like the Indian football fans would go home disappointed as none of the teams managed to score a lone goal in front of each other. But in the 86th minute outstanding footballer Maximiliano Barreiro came forward to broke the silence. The Argentine forward played a smart move as he sent Hyderabad’s experienced goalie Kamaljeet  Singh to the wrong way and easily slotted the goal right in the box. At last, NorthEast United came out as the winners of the match last night.

With this hard-fought win, NorthEast United FC reached on the top of the current ISL standings along with as many as eight points in account. While on the other side, Hyderabad FC moved down to the second-last position with only three points in account.

The Highlanders will next take on strong opponents of Mumbai City FC at the home ground of Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on November 27th. While Hyderabad FC will test their fortunes against two-time title lifters Chennaiyin FC at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
