The late goal of Amine Chermiti in the fifth match of Indian Super League season six proved handy for Mumbai City FC against hosting team Kerala Blasters on Thursday. In their nail-biting campaign opener against yellow brigades, Mumbai FC grabbed the victory by 1-0 margin at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Kochi. The credit of Mumbai’s comprehensive win goes to star forward Amine Chermiti who fortunately fired a shot in the dying minutes to ensure his team’s win against strong opponents.
At the beginning of the match, hosts tried to dominate the lead over visitors with some worth-watching shots. This is the reason why Mumbai boys had a slow start in the den of yellow brigades. The hosts kept testing brilliant goalie Amrinder Singh in the starting minutes but Diego Carlos breathtaking cross into the box at 10th minute mounted the pressure on home team. After a neck-to-neck hustle in the first half the scoreboard ended with a goalless draw in halftime.
However, in the second half, visitors gained the momentum and started playing with an attacking approach. But hosts also raised their game to prevent the goal of opponents. When it was looking like fans would return back to their home without any cheerful moment, Chermiti immediately came forward to knock a spectacular opener for Mumbai City FC at the 82nd minute. This stunned the Kerala crowd and eventually visitors won the game.
