Joe Willock was involved in most of the good things Arsenal did in their final third as they overcame Norwegian Champions Molde at Emirates Stadium.
Joe Willock was again in the spotlight in the Europa League campaign as his involvement helped Arsenal defeat Molde FK 4-1 on matchday three.
Arsenal went behind in the 22nd-minute through Martin Ellingsen’s strike. The game passed the eye test as both the teams were fighting to score goals. Arsenal had Eddie Nketiah’s goal ruled out after Willock was deemed offside.
However, Arsenal went into the break level after a quick counter-attack ended in an own goal when a pass from Willock to Nketiah ricocheted through Malmo’s Kristopher Haugen’s legs and into the goal.
Arsenal started the second half on a brighter note and kept on asking the right questions from Erling Moe’s men.
It was great to see him perform well: Luiz on Willock
Full of energy and running, Willock continually popped up in goal scoring positions and he played a key role in the second goal before putting the finishing touch on another fine display with an emphatic finish.
David Luiz was quick to praise Joe Willock in his post-match conference. The Brazilian said, “It’s always great [to see him perform well]. Not just Joe but everybody, it’s always great because sometimes you don’t have a lot of minutes to show your quality but now you need more than just 11 players, you need more than that because we have many competitions, many games.
It’s a difficult level and everybody has to be available with the right mentality to contribute positively to the team.”
The big question is will there be more chances for the young Englishman. We can only wait and watch.
