Barcelona, one of the most successful clubs in the world, is currently in Saudi Arabia, where they are playing the Spanish Super Cup, which started in a new format. With the team’s star player Lionel Messi, there is a lot of hope that the team will be able to save the title. However, before the semi-final match, the team was in trouble because before reaching the ground, their bus was lost.
The Barcelona team was scheduled to go for a practice session at the Al-Ittihad Club in Jeddah ahead of the semi-final against Atlético Madrid on Thursday. The driver of the bus forgot the way and the team were delayed in reaching the ground. The bus driver took them to the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium instead of the Al-Ittihad Ground where the Super Cup matches were being played. There was a distance of 30 km between the two places and because of this Barcelona team reached Al-Ittihad Ground 45 minutes late.
Club coaches Ernesto Valverde and mid-fielder Sergio Busquets were to hold a press conference before this practice session. However, due to the delay, they spoke to reporters after the end of the session.
The Spanish Super Cup is taking place in Saudi Arabia for the first time. Last year, Federation President Luis Rubiales decided to make major changes to the tournament. He decided to change the format of the tournament between four teams instead of two teams, for the first time its dates were changed to January instead of August. This tournament is going to be held in Saudi Arabia for the next three years. There is a $44 million agreement for every year.
