Tottenham 57. Man City 59. Liverpool 61 with a match against West Ham United. The title race is closer than ever this season. With both Man City and Tottenham winning their respective games, the pressure was now on Liverpool, who faced West Ham away from Anfield. Salal, Mane, and Firmino started for the reds, while Antonio, Chicharito and Felipe Anderson were the front 3 in claret and blue. Pellegrini and West Ham were 12th on the table and were seeking that 7th place spot for UEFA Europa playoff qualification who were just 6 points adrift Wolves in 7th.
Surprisingly, West ham began the match well. Felipe Anderson was supplying the width as the full back- Zabaleta, and Cresswell were supporting both the attack and defense equally. Chicharito got the first chance of the match with Rice supplying him the ball from wide. He trapped the ball well but launched his shot above Allison’s goal. The Reds matched with Mane and drifting his curler wide moments later, after clever footwork from Firmino. The Reds scored first as Milner who should’ve been off-side played in a ball for Mane who controlled well and then dispatched a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner well with Fabianski trying his best to save. With the Reds 1-0 up and taking most of the possession, Klopp was comfortable. Firmino cut through the whole defense easily but fluffed his shot. With half-time approaching, West Ham got a free-kick, Antonio cleverly passed the ball to Antonio who sprinted behind the wall and scored into the bottom left corner with Alisson hopeless. Minutes later, West Ham constructed a similar free-kick with Rice unmarked, however, the Englishman could only drag his header wide of the post. With an entertaining first-half, came tired players in their dressing rooms.
The second half was quiet with Liverpool’s attack not being able to break West Ham’s resilient defense. Salah neatly turned in Ogbonna, but Fabianski saved smartly to give West Ham hope of salvaging at least a point. Caroll came on to provide some height in West Ham’s attack. Becker headed the ball straight to Caroll in the 90th minute, but the former Red could just see his poor first touch turn into Liverpool possession. The match ended 1-1 with Liverpool losing 2 valuable points.
