Liverpool faced Manchester City in an away fixture on Thursday night, in the beginning, Manchester City paid their respect to Liverpool players by giving them the Guard of Honor. The current season champions Liverpool were completely answerless against Pep’s City last night. City playing at their home ground Etihad Stadium scored 4 goals and completely outplayed Klopp’s side. A total of four goals were scored out of which three different City players scored for the team, whereas Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade Chamberlain scored an own goal.
The first goal was scored by Belgian midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, he scored a penalty in the 25th minute of the match. Raheem Sterling scored the second goal of the night in the 35th minute. English young gun Phil Foden scored the third in the 45th minute of the game. Making the score 3-0 by the end of the first half. Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade Chamberlain did a mistake in the 66th minute and gave a tap to the cross by Raheem Sterling resulting in an own goal. Manchester City won the match 4-0.
Klopp told Sky Sports after the match, “I saw a brilliant attitude. I saw boys who were fighting with [everything]. “We didn’t behave like somebody who became champion a week ago … We lacked fluidity … In some situations, 50-50s, they were quicker than us.”
Though the result of the match doesn’t matter much as Liverpool has already won the English Premier League, but still, it was a big insult for the Reds as they lost by a huge margin of four goals.
Liverpool will face Aston Villa on Sunday in a home fixture. On the other hand, Manchester City will be facing Southampton in an away fixture on Sunday night.
