The Ligue 1 leaders are one point away from claiming another league title but Paris Saint Germain’s recent performance has seen the star-studded team limp in the final clashes. A massive humbling by Lille and a loss to Nantes recently has left coach Thomas Tuchel frustrated.
However, to bring a smile and some confidence back to the squad, winger Neymar and striker Edinson Cavani are likely to be back in the squad by this week. So far, PSG have squandered three chances to clinch the trophy in a record time. They lost to Lille, drew a point against Strasbourg where Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s miss proved to be quite costly for the Les Parisians. The 5-1 drubbing against Lille was the first time PSG concedes five goals in a game since 2000.
Nevertheless, PSG will be crowned champions unless second-placed Lille fail to win at Toulouse. The Parisians will face 2017 champions and rivals Monaco. More good news comes in for Tuchel as winger Angel di Maria and defender Marquinhos are set to come back from injuries while Juan Bernat and Marco Verratii make a comeback from suspensions. Neymar could be in the playing XI against Monaco and Tuchel believes that he has been working hard and is eager to get back on the field.
“He has been working hard, with a good mindset. We could get him back as soon as tomorrow,” Tuchel told a news conference.
While Neymar is on course to lift the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup, missing out on the Champions League is a matter which is on his mind for a while and with rumors going strong with the Brazilian linked to Real Madrid, Neymar may make a move to Madrid by the end of the season.
With Zidane back at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Frenchman will look to get Real back on track after helping the Spanish giants lift the UEFA Champions League title thrice in a row.
