Thriving at their new stadium, Tottenham Hotspurs basked in glory as Lucas Moura’s hat-trick guided the hosts to a 4-0 win over relegated Huddersfield in the Premier League clash. The win comes as a major boost ahead of their clash with Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League clash.
Spurs go in with a slender lead but will be without a few of their star players. With Harry Kane likely to be out for the season and not taking a risk with Deli Alli, Pochettino rested his big guns ahead of Wednesday’s UCL clash.
Huddersfield was more of a distraction for Spurs to prepare for City as they are on course of creating history if they get through to the semis. From Victor Wanyama’s opening goal to a barrage of shots by Moura claiming a hat-trick. Spurs were on cruise mode throughout.
However, a cause of concern comes Spurs way as midfielder Harry Winks was also absent from the playing XI. It was learnt that he picked up an injury during practice before the clash.
Llorente was the talisman for the match, while Pochettino also brought in Kyle Walker-Peters, Ben Davies and Juan Forsyth for the clash in a 3-4-2-1 formation. The hosts went on to pound away and keep the pressure on Huddersfield as they created 21 chances with five on target. They ended the match with 61 per cent of the possession.
The 4-0 win over Huddersfield must have had Pep Guardiola with plenty of homework to do as City face Crystal Palace before the UCL clash. Guardiola will hope to capitalise as Spurs go into the clash without Kane.
Pochettino is all set for the clash with City and knowing fully well the win won’t be served on a platter, the Argentine coach believes that Spurs can get the result they want.
“Now we have a good battle in Manchester, we need from now to recover for this game and prepare very well,” he said.
“It will be so hard there but if we play like we did today we can go there and get a good result and we can qualify,” Pochettino said after the match.
