While the race for the Premier League title heats up with each passing game going by, the race of the golden shoe is also on close terms with Liverpool’s forwards Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah being in front of goal as the Reds destroyed relegated club Huddersfield in the Premier League fixture.
Salah and Mane became are now in the top two in the season’s scoring charts on Friday after netting twice each in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over that lifted Klopp’s team back on top of the points table.
Salah has smashed 21 goals so far, leaving behind Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero and Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who both have 19 as the Egyptian looks to finish as top scorer for the second straight season.
Salah recently walked the red carpet in New York as one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world, he was back at Anfield scoring for the hosts in each half. After his 83rd-minute goal that rounded off the scoring, Salah sat on the ground in front of The Kop in a meditation position, similar to the yoga position which he celebrated after scoring a worldie against Chelsea.
The win over Huddersfield saw Liverpool climb to the top of the table with a two-point slender lead over rivals Manchester City, who have a game in hand. Pep Guardiola’s Citizens next face Burnley.
Liverpool could still end the season with 97 points and still not win the title as only City, last year, has earned more points than that. The Reds have not won the Premier League yet and the search continues if City maintains their winning run.
Good news also came in for the Reds when midfielder Alex Oxlade Chamerblain returned to the squad after a year. The Englishman was ruled out due to a serious knee injury. However, a matter of concern does arise for Klopp as forward Roberto Firminho suffered a groin injury. Firminho did not play as Klopp wants his players fresh for the UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool.
