Arsenal were the latest top tier club in English football to be gunned down by Wolves as the Gunners were humbled 3-1 at the Molineux this season. In Wolves’ previous matches against the top six, they have defeated Manchester United twice, held Liverpool and Manchester City and defeated Chelsea as well.
It has been some return for Wolves in the Premier League and they imposed their dominance once again as they were already 3-0 up in the first half of the clash. Arsenal were stunned too early and could not recover which saw them lose three points once again.
Wolves took advantage of several defensive mistakes by the Gunners to score first-half goals through Ruben Neves, Matt Doherty and Diogo Jota and earn a first league win over Arsenal in 40 years. Emery’s woes continue and if the losses keep rolling, a change in manager is imminent.
Defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos headed in a late consolation goal for the visitors but Emery’s side has won just six times on away this season and is now one point behind Chelsea in fifth ahead of another tough away game at Leicester on Sunday.
While the Arsenal coach continues to back his defender’s poor show, Emery’s clock is starting to tick. Many fans took to social media to make the management known about bringing in former Arsenal player and Manchester City assistant coach Mikel Arteta.
Emery has less time but he can make up for the losses if he leads the Gunners to win the Europa League this season. Arsenal are already in the semifinals of the tournament and face Valencia. Along with a trophy, the winner is also guaranteed a spot in the Champions League which Arsenal haven’t played in quite a while.
None the less, the battle for the top four continues in the Premier League.
In the other clash, Manchester City pipped United once again to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League points table which now see Guardiola’s Citizens a point ahead of Liverpool. City scored twice at Old Trafford which left United with no answers.
