James Rodriguez is set to be sidelined for the Sunday evening clash against Southampton after an injury suffered during the Merseyside Derby.

Carlo Ancelotti in his latest press conference told the reporters that his midfielder is set to miss this weekend’s clash after a “mistimed” tackle from Van Dijk resulted in a knock.

“Unfortunately, James had a problem during the game [against Liverpool]. He had a mistimed tackle with Virgil van Dijk at the beginning of the game and I think he will not be available for the game against Southampton,” Ancelotti told the club’s official website.

This came as a surprise to many as James Rodriguez played the whole 90 minutes at Goodison Park last Saturday. It will be a blow for the Toffees as the Colombian has been fundamental to club’s success up until now.

Everton currently are the league leaders and travel to Southampton who sit twelfth in the league. Saints are on the back of an amazing result against Chelsea, where they drew 3-3 after going two goals behind.

Everton will also be without club captain Seamus Coleman against the Saints, but Allan is set to feature after avoiding any recurrence of the groin complaint that he carried into a meeting with Liverpool.

Ancelotti’s side will aim to extend their impressive five-match undefeated to six in the Premier League encounter at St Mary’s Stadium this weekend.
