Marcelino García Toral’s squad Valencia has created history at Benito Villamarin Stadium as the bats clinched their first ever title of Copa del Rey since 2008 against football champions Barcelona on Sunday. Valencia squad turned their fortunes against Messi starrer Barcelona after securing two winning goals and bagged a 2-1 lead in the match.

At the beginning of the final match, Valencia seemed to be playing in attacking form against the champions as they registered both the winning shots in the first half of the game. The French forward of winning club Kevin Gameiro fired the opener for the team at the 21st minute which was followed by another goal at the 33rd minute by star winger Rodrigo to grab a lead of 2-0 for Valencia. With this win, Valencia broke their losing streak of four consecutive Copa del Rey titles finally this year.

Though, the challenging opponents Barcelona managed to register at least a lone goal during the second half of the game as superstar Messi opened an account for his team in the 71st minute but his single didn’t make any change in their fortunes.

Earlier in last month, dominating club Barcelona clinched its eighth La Liga title Levante at the home pitch of Camp Nou. Barca toppled over the visitors with an easy smooth-run win of 1-0. The star of the game Lionel Messi took only 16 minutes to score the lone goal for his side to win the precious title. With the strike, Messi took his La Liga goal tally to 34 in 46 games which take him in the lead of golden boot race in Europe once again. Barca proved its dominance at La Liga in current years after winning the final successfully.

The painful defeat in Copa final will straightly be targeted at the head coach of Barcelona club Ernesto Valverde as it is Barca’s second defeat of the season after pulling out from Champion League against Liverpool. The premier league club Liverpool had defeated Barca tigers with a margin of 4-0 at Anfield stadium in the semi-finals. However, La Liga’s win is the only victory for the club this season.
