Ace Indian dragflicker Harmanpreet Singh is all set for the biggest challenge in his hockey career so far as the 23-year-old young defender is going to lead Indian Men’s Hockey Team in upcoming Olympic Test event in Japan starting from August 17. In the prestigious forthcoming event at Oi Hockey Stadium, India will battle with three strong opponents nemesis Malaysia, New Zealand and hosting team Japan.
The talented dragflicker expressed himself after reigning the helms as the captain of the team, “when I was told that I would be leading the team, it was a pleasant surprise. It is an honour and a big responsibility. I am excited and looking forward to the challenge”. Further, he also added, “we will be playing every match with the intent to win”.
On the game front, three of the strong contenders of India are outstanding. Malaysia reached the position after defeating Germany squad in its previous match while New Zealand make its way to the Tokyo Olympics Tests after performing well in FIH Pro League. On the other hand, hosting team Japan has also been seen in a good form for past few months.
Now, when regular skipper Manpreet Singh is absent from the Test’s squad the major responsibility of handling the team came on Harmanpreet’s shoulder. He seemed to look very much confident with his new responsibilities and quite sure about his team’s victory in this road to Tokyo Olympics 2019. The grand tournament of Olympics 2020 will commenced from July 24th till August 9th, 2020 at Tokyo, Japan.
