Indian women played out another jittery draw against the hosting team Great Britain in the fifth and the final encounter of important Hockey series at Marlow, England. This time the visitors held the hosts to 2-2 draw on Friday. All thanks to the stellar performances of Navjot Kaur and Gurjit Kaur who gave tough competition to the hosts after a disappointing defeat in the previous encounter.
Indians began the final game on a very aggressive note as it was a do or die situation for them. In the first 10 minutes of the match visitors successfully kept the hosts at a bay with their strong defence. As a result, Navjot Kaur easily found the net and scored an opener for her team. However, the frustrated hosts then tried to convert many penalty corners with some amazing shots. But incredible saves by Savita Punia prevented Britain from taking lead. This resulted in India led the scoreboard with a 1-0 scoreline at the end of the first half.
In the second half also India dominated the possesions and also extend their lead to 2-0 with the help of an energetic shot by brilliant defender Gurjit Kaur at the 48th minute. However, in reply, Britain got another chance to score from a penalty corner and this time Elizabeth Neal made no mistake. She successfully fired an opener at the 55th minute to reduce the gap to 2-1 lead. With less than five minutes to go on the clock, Britain’s Anna Toman earned one more goal for her team and wrapped the match with 2-2 draw.

The interesting five-match hockey series between both the teams was then followed by another match-draw with 0-0 verdict at Marlow. But finally in the fourth battle, hosts witnessed a celebrating win against the blues. In that match, Britain’s women’s squad thrashed the women in blue by a 3-1 scoreline. When everything was going well for the Indians in the prestigious series, Great Britain suddenly emerged as the strong contenders in the fourth round.
