Sports Ministry has started preparations for 2021, 2024, and 2028 Olympics. In the first leg, the Sports Ministry has decided to convert 8 states into State Khelo India Centre Of Excellence. Under this scheme, the best training center of each state will be made even better so that players can train there. Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju said that the main motive to start these excellence centers is to prepare some Olympic medallists.
In first leg 8 states which are selected are, Karnataka, Odisha, Kerala, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland. The selection process of these training centers started almost a year ago.
15 states have sent a proposal for Khelo India Centre Of Excellence
The centers which will be upgraded under Khelo India Centre Of Excellence, the central government will appoint high-performance manager, sports science expert, and coaches at these centers. Modern equipment and necessary facilities will be provided to players.
Three Olympics games have been added under this scheme
According to sources, the sports ministry was adding just one game under the One State One Game scheme. Even the states were allotted with respective games, but many states approached sports ministry and asked to increase the number of games per state, as people in a particular state like more than just one game. Due to this reason only, the centers are being upgraded to increase their capacity and efficiency.
Central Government will manage Khelo India Centres Of Excellence
Central Government will manage Khelo India Centres Of Excellence. Along with that, the games which are supported by the Central Government, the state governments will select the players for those games. Whereas other facilities like coaches, support staff, playing pieces of equipment, and high-performance managers will be allotted by Central Government. Other things like facilities, player performance, and training will be tracked by Sports Authority Of India.
