Arsenal booked their place in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup at the expense of Liverpool, who they defeated 5-4 on penalties.

Arsenal looked the better side inside the 10 minutes with good passing moves by their young guns, Pepe, Nketiah, and Willock. Eddie Nketaih got the best chance of the first 15 minutes when a beautiful move carved open the Liverpool defense, only for Adrian to deny Nketiah from point-blank range.

Both sides had a fair amount of chances in the first half but Liverpool should have been ahead at half-time when a Diogo Jota curling shot was saved superbly by Bernd Leno, who deflected the ball towards the incoming Minamino, who hit the crossbar.

In another major highlight from the first half, Ceballos was fortunate when he tripped the Portuguese, Jota, who was inches outside the 12-yard box.

The second half kicked off a dominant display from Liverpool. The Reds could have gone beyond sight but a Leno masterclass kept Arsenal in the game.

Subsequently, the match went into penalties. Origi and Elneny missed for either side to take the game into sudden death. Arsenal’s young English defender Joe Willock scored a scrappy goal to send The Gunners into quarters after Harry Wilson missed his chance in front of the goal.

The Gunners have now tied Man City in the quarter-final of the cup competition. But before it, they must focus on the Sheffield United game on Sunday.
