Jurgen Klopp heaped praise on 19-year-old center back Rhys Williams who again oozed class in Atalanta’s drubbing at The Gewiss Stadium
A Diogo Jota hat-trick ensured a comfortable win for the Reds at Gewiss Stadium which helped them in keeping their 100% record in the Champions League this season.
But Klopp didn’t have everything planned out. Virgil Van Dijk will be out of the team for the rest of the season whereas Joel Matip was deemed not enough fit to start the match. But the young replacements have not shown any fear in replacing the defender who finished in the Top 2 Ballon d’Or nominations in January early this year.
23-year-old Nathaniel Williams gave a man of the match performance against West Ham whereas Rhys Williams didn’t fail to produce the goods in the mid-week clash against Italian giants Atalanta.
Klopp after the game said, “We can start with Rhys – exceptional.
“I cannot imagine being 19-years-old and playing my second professional football game in the Champions League against Duvan Zapata, it’s incredible!
“I would have been nervous as hell, but the boy was not. Defending is obviously a common thing, and how the team defended tonight was absolutely incredible.”
It seems a remarkable story that Williams was on loan in the Non-League with Kidderminster last season.
He showed his capabilities last night against some world-class performers and against a team that reached the quarterfinals in the Champions League.
And the most exciting part is that there is more to come from the youngster.
