Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said that his former side are the favorites to lift the Premier League crown this season.

Liverpool have made a solid start to the season in what is a pretty weird Premier League campaign. After eight game-weeks, Leicester and Spurs occupy the top two positions. Whereas, last year Champions sit third and Pep Guardiola’s men sit at a lowly 10th position, having played a game less.

“I think if Liverpool buy a center-back, a good one, in January, I think they’ll take some stopping, I really do. Defensively, they have injury problems in that position. And if they rectify that in January, I think Liverpool would be my favorites,” said Carragher.

There won’t be a big gap this season between City and Liverpool

“But right now, I think it’s 50/50 between them and Man City because of Liverpool’s injuries and the setback of Van Dijk,” added Carragher.

“I just don’t think there will be as big a gap between them (Liverpool and City) and the rest as we’ve seen in the last couple of years.”
