Star female tennis player Serena Williams makes her way to the quarterfinals in Rogers Cup 2019 after defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia in Round of 16. Williams fixed her meeting with strong opponent Naomi Osaka in her next battle at Rogers Cup. The Japanese gemstone Osaka advances to quarters in Toronto after beating Polish qualifier Iga Swiatek by 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

Both the female veterans last faced each other in the finals of US Open 2018 where former World No. 1 tennis player Naomi Osaka defeated American opponent by 6-2, 6-4 at New York. In that hard-fought battle of women’s singles, Osaka clinched her maiden US Open title against Serena Williams which was not that easy. It will be interesting to see whether World No.2 Osaka maintains her dominance on Williams in Rogers Cup 2019 or American legend will get back the reigns one more time.

Williams was last seen in prestigious Wimbledon Championship 2019 where she lost the title after reaching so close to it. The American reached the finals of the tournament but failed to defend against World No.4 Romanian player Simona Halep. As a result, the American superstar lost the battle by 6-2, 6-2 in the final. Despite losing her game after coming so close to the destination, Williams improved her position in current WTA rankings as she reached to ninth spot along with total 3,411 points.

Apart from Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka, Russian legend Simona Halep who recently clinched the title of Wimbledon Championship 2019 on her name has also reached to the quarter-final round in Rogers Cup 2019. In order to set her meeting with Czech player Marie Bouzková, Halep defeated Russian mate Svetlana Kuznetsova with a margin of 6-2, 6-1 in Round of 16 on Friday. 

In men’s singles, World No. 2 tennis player Rafael Nadal reached to the quarterfinals in order to meet Italian star Fabio Fognini at Centre Court on Saturday. Apart from Spanish star Nadal, another Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut also booked his seat in quarter-final round against Frenchman Gaël Monfils on Saturday. Roberto beat Richard Gasquet of France by 7-5, 7-5 in the Round of 16 on Friday. In the last edition of Rogers Cup, top-notch player Rafael Nadal clinched the title against Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in the final.
