The newly-made Wimbledon Champion Simona Halep has finally got a boom in her WTA ranking order as she climbed back to World No. 4 position after defeating seven-time title winner Serena Williams. Before the starting of Wimbledon Championship 2019, Halep was reigning at the seventh position in rankings. Though Halep’s brilliant efforts in the glitzy event lifted her three spots up and she became the first Romanian player to win a Wimbledon singles title ever. However, the current position is not the career’s best rank for Halep as earlier in October 2019, she led the WTA standings for total 64 weeks over two spells.
The Romanian star stunned the American legend in the recently concluded finals of Wimbledon Championship 2019 at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Halep put up a great show in the biggest match of her career against 23-time Grand Slam champion and she didn’t give any chance to Williams to bounce back. As a result, Halep comfortably clinched the 6-2, 6-2 victory in the glorious finals on Saturday.
Despite losing her game after coming so close to the destination, Williams improved her position better in current WTA rankings as she reached to ninth spot along with total 3,411 points. Hoping to seal this prestigious tournament with the eighth title, Williams will now have to wait a little longer to achieve her milestone.
On the other side, Halep struggled very hard to clinch her first Wimbledon title. The talented player came over all the obstacles at her side. The biggest challenge for Halap in this season was young American teen Cori Gauff who became relentless after her back to back victories the game. The 15-year-old Coco shocked the five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams in her very first round of the tournament. This gave her the immense fame and success after which it became almost impossible to break the girl. Finally, in Round of 16, Halep crushed her hopes of winning a Wimbledon title in such an early age.
