Ace female tennis player Maria Sharapova has been ruled out from Italian Open 2019 on Wednesday after sufferring a shoulder injury. Former world number 1 tennis champion is going to be replaced by 45th-ranked Viktoria Kuzmova. The 32-year-old star player continues to be on sidelines since  St. Petersburg Open held in Russia in January 2019. Though, Maria won the first match of the tournament against Russian mate Daria Gavrilova by 6-0, 6-4.

The three-time grand slam champion said while announcing her inury, “I had gone through a small procedure on my right shoulder that would need a few weeks to heal”. Later she also added, “I have struggled since midway through 2018 with shoulder pain caused by a fraying tendon and small labrum tear”. Earlier at the time of Australia Open , the Russian tennis star shocked defending champion Caroline Wozniacki by 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Apart from Italian Open Sharapova has also withdrawn from the great tennis tournaments like Stuttgart Open and the Madrid Open as she is undergoing a treatment of her right shoulder injury. Moreover, it is difficult to say right now that whether Sharapova will attend French Open event or not which is going to start at the end of this month.

Earlier, in March 2016, the Russian professional failed to clear doping test during 2016 Australia Open and as a result the player was suspended by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) till April 2017. Later she made a comeback to the court and played her first match after the return in Porsche Tennis Grand Prix which she had already won thrice in the past.

Maria began her 2019 season with her 800th career singles title against Timea Bacsinszky at  Shenzhen Open and this could probably be her career’s best match this year.
