The young emerging star of the tennis fraternity Sumit Nagal has jumped to career-best 129th spot in recently updated ATP rankings on Monday. Despite losing his game to Argentinian star Juan Ficovich in the semifinals of ATP Challenger Campinas 2019 on Saturday, Nagal still improved better in recent ATP standings. The Harayana-lad dominated the headlines one more time with his superfast growth in ATP rankings. Earlier he was reigning at the 135th position in ATP rankings after the Buenos Aires Challenger tournament 2019. But now has been moved up by six places as per the new rankings issued by Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

The classic Indian tennis player witnessed mixed-baggage events in the past few weeks. In his Grand Slam debut at US Open 2019, he defeated World No. 3 legendary player Roger Federer in the opening set. However, Federer bounced back in the game to topple the Indian debutant in rest of the sets by 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 scoreline at Flushing Meadows. But Nagal gained immense amount of love and affection from all the tennis fans across the world after a commendable show.

However, the loss at US Open 2019 didn’t break the Indian superstar as he emerged victorious successfully in the next international tournament in Argentina. The 22-year-old brilliant player scripted a historic win on his name after defeating home favourite Facundo Bagnis in 2019 Buenos Aires Challenger finals. He took just one hour and 37 minutes to thrash the local star Bagnis by 6-4, 6-2 margin last week. With this impressive win, he also became the first Asian to bag the lustrous trophy of ATP Challenger in Buenos Aires.

Riding high on confidence Nagal then participated in ATP Challenger Campinas 2019 this week where he easily booked his place in the semi-final round against Argentinian professional Juan Ficovich on Saturday. But it seemed like Nagal’s short-term experience in tennis was not enough to beat the talented player as the fabulous tennis star edged past the Indian by a 6-4, 6-1 comfortable win which eventually turned out to be a lop-sided contest.

It will be interesting to see after so many ups and downs in the past three events how will the Indian milestone perform in the upcoming tours.
