Top three modern tennis greats Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic made their ways to the semi-final round of Wimbledon Championship 2019 on Wednesday.
Defending champion, as well as World No. 1 tennis player Novak Djokovic, will meet 22nd-ranked Spaniard Roberto Bautista on Friday whereas arch-rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will lock horns with each other in order to secure their place in final showdown of Wimbledon 2019.
While expressing himself about the upcoming semifinals match against Rafael Nadal, 20-time Grand Slam champion Federer said,”he has improved so much over the years on this surface. He’s playing also very different than he used to. We haven’t played each other in a long, long time on this surface. He’s serving way different”. Both the tennis legends last met each other in the grand tournament of Roland Garros where brilliant Spaniard Nadal defeated experienced Swiss veteran with the great margin of 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
In his last game of the ongoing tournament, Federer set down the Japanese professional Kei Nishikori by 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in the much-hyped quarter-final battle on Wednesday. With this comfortable win, Swiss star clinched his 100th match victory in Wimbledon Championship. On the other side, Rafael Nadal easily handed over the 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 defeat to 65th-ranked Sam Querrey of United States. Nadal set a great show in the quarters in order to face his long-time rival Federer in a dream match once again. While Novak Djokovic thrashed the Belgian talent David Goffin effortlessly with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 and Spanish player Robert Bautista Agut marked his winning ways for semifinals after beating 26th-ranked Guido Pella by 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in a hard-fought battle.
In women’s singles World No. 7 Simona Halep, seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams, World No. 8 Elina Svitolina, and Czech player Barbora Strýcová have been progressed to semi-final battle which is scheduled to be played at All England Lawn Tennis on Thursday. Former World No. 1 female star Halep who finished the career of young teen Cori ‘Coco’ Gauff in Round of 16 will next battle against Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the semifinals. While American superstar Serena Williams will take on Czech veteran Strýcová after beating Alison Riske in the quarter-final round by 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
