World No. 2 Rafael Nadal kept his dominance alive in the grand tournament of US Open 2019 as he comfortably made his way towards the quarter-final round after defeating 2014 champion Marin Cilic of Croatia. The Spanish star Nadal who clinched the lustrous trophy of US Open in  2010, 2013 and 2017 put up a great show against Croatian star and sealed the game with 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win.

Nadal kicked off the game with excellent momentum and didn’t face much fuss in winning the first set. Though in the second set he experienced a speed breaker as the Croatian veteran beat him with a 3-6 verdict. He bounced back in the third round and then grabbed the control in his hand. As a result, he won a thrilling battle.

After winning the exciting battle, second-seeded Rafael Nadal expressed his emotions by saying,  “the emotions I have when I play here are impossible to describe. I love the sport and feel very lucky to still be playing tennis here. Eight years ago I didn’t think that would happen as my body was suffering badly”.

Three-time title champion Rafael Nadal reached to the fourth round after defeating Chung Hyeon of Korea by 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in the third encounter of the prestigious tournament. However, he will now face 21st-ranked Diego Schwartzman of Argentina in the quarters. It is going to be a big challenge for him before reaching the semis in the game. It will be interesting to see whether Nadal will book his spot in semis or return back to Spain without any title.

Apart from Nadal, another tennis great Roger Federer along with GaĆ«l Monfils and Matteo Berrettini also progressed to the quarterfinals. While the biggest threat in the men’s singles competition World No.1 Novak Djokovic ruled out of the tournament due to serious shoulder injury.

On the other hand in women’s singles Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu secured her place in quarters after beating 116th-ranked Taylor Townsend of the United States by 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 on Tuesday. She will next face Elise Mertens of Belgium who defeated American star Kristie Ahn in the third round Of US Open 2019. Apart from Andreescu, American legend Serena Williams and World No.12 Belinda Bencic also booked their place in quarters.
