Former World No. 1 player Simona Halep who finished the journey of young tennis sensation Cori Gauff in Round of 16 has finally made it to semifinals on Tuesday. This came after the Romanian star thrashed out the Chinese professional Zhang Shuai with the great margin of 7-6, 6-1 at Centre Court.


Apart from World No. 7 Halep,  seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams, World No. 8 Elina Svitolina, and Czech player Barbora Strýcová also qualified to the race of semifinals on Tuesday at England.

Halep will next take on Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the semifinals round on Thursday while Williams will try to maintain her dominance against Czech star Strýcová after beating Alison Riske in the quarter-final round by 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 on Tuesday.

In men’s singles, it is the time for quarterfinal battle and top three tennis greats Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer have been qualified for the final-eight round on Tuesday. Besides these three legendary players, 22nd-ranked Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, 23-ranked Belgian talent David Goffin, 26th-ranked Argentine professional Guido Pella, seventh-ranked Kei Nishikori of Japan, and 65th-ranked Sam Querrey of United States will also compete in the quarter-final battle.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic will next lock the horns with Belgian star Goffin on Tuesday after beating Frenchman U Humbert by 6-3, 6-2, 6-3  in Round of 16. While 20-time Grand Slam winner Federer will face Japanese professional Nishikori after defeating Berrettini by 6-1, 6-2 , 6-2 in the fourth round. World No. 2 player Rafael Nadal will meet with American talent Querrey in the quarterfinals after clinching the win over Sousa with the great margin of 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in his previous match of ongoing tournament.

On the other hand, World No. 18 Roberto Bautista Agut will lock horns with Argentine superstar Pella in the upcoming quarter-final battle on Wednesday at 5.30 pm (IST). Roberto defeated his French opponent Benoît Paire by 6-3, 7-5, 6-2 in the last Round of 16 battle.

The upcoming quarter-final battle in men’s singles will test all the tennis champions one by one and it will be interesting to see whether the top three veterans will make it to semifinals or crashed out from the tournament after reaching so close.
